This site is about graphic imaging tools I like to use, which gives rise to "Particular Art" in the general sense. In the particular sense, some of those tools make images from itty-bitty things called particles (fountains, fogs and such), so there it is: a double entendre already and we haven't even gotten properly under weigh yet.
For ages and ages I resisted the whole idea of writing a web-based journal. How can the world be served by Yet Another Blog? At present, no one has a clear idea of how many blogs there are: some big number plus or minus a million. But, at the end of the day, it came down to one selfish reason. I understand stuff better when I write about it. I learned this some time ago when I made a living writing documentation. It still pays bills. So, to better grasp tools I like to use, I write about them. And — dear reader — as a mere side-product, maybe you'll benefit from this.
I suppose this is the place I should say a few words about myself. Years and years and years ago — three decades ago and change — I blew into New York City with the design to become an illustrator. When it came to the point where the money was running out, I had two books circulating around town, one a book of illustrations, another a book of writing samples. The writing got me the first job, writing advertising copy, which got me the second job, writing technical documentation for security clearing systems, which got me programming gigs. So there I was, rattling down the pin ball machine on an angle I hadn't planned on. But I do not, for an instant, regret the distraction; computers are the most fascinating toys of my generation. When I was a kid, I thought it was going to be space travel, but it turned out to be the Internet.
Still somewhere around the focal point of my orbit there is this drawing thing, and it's on my bucket list to make more of it. While not making less of the other stuff, which still matters. So: particular art, and the image-making processes that intrigue me enough to write about, in particular.
